How Pro Bono Scholars and Other Volunteers Change Lives

Lawyers, students, community partners, and others committed to access to justice will join together in Buffalo for a conference entitled Social Justice in Western New York: How Pro Bono Scholars and Other Volunteers Change Lives. The University at Buffalo School of Law will host a CLE that will examine issues related to current social justice legal work in Western New Work. It will be centered around the work of new experts in the field: UB School of Law’s 2016 Pro Bono Scholars.

The conference will take place on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at the University at Buffalo School of Law, Room 509, O'Brian Hall. Registration will start at 8:45 a.m., the conference will begin at 9:45 a.m. and run until 12:00 p.m.

The highly-competitive Pro Bono Scholars Program, pursuant to a special program initiated by the NY Court of Appeals, gives third-year law students the opportunity work full-time in a pro bono placement for law school credit for their final semester of law school.  This is the Program’s second year. Over the last 12 weeks, UB School of Law Scholars have been volunteering at:

  • The Erie County Bar Association Volunteer Lawyer’s Project
  • Legal Services for the Elderly, Disabled and Disadvantaged
  • Journey’s End Refugee Services, Inc.
  • Legal Aid Bureau of Buffalo, Inc.
  • Legal Aid of Rochester
  • Empire Justice
  • Volunteer Legal Services Project (Rochester)
