Stephen Kelkenberg '02 and Hillary Green '02 recently learned that their son, Zachary, age 6, requires an urgent bone marrow transplant. A Bone Marrow Drive is being held Monday, August 12, at Hodgson Russ LLP.
Stephen Kelkenberg '02 and Hillary Green '02, recently learned that their son, Zachary, age 6, requires an urgent bone marrow transplant. Zachary has been undergoing treatment this past year for aplastic anemia, however he was recently diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome which can only be treated with a bone marrow transplant. A successful bone marrow transplant would be a cure for Zachary.
Stephen is an attorney at Hodgson Russ and Hillary is an attorney at the Federal Public Defender’s Office. We are asking the local legal community for its support in helping friends and family of Zachary find him a bone marrow donor.
Bone Marrow Drive
A bone marrow drive has been scheduled through Be the Match Registry® for Monday, August 12, 2013 between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. The drive is being held at the law offices of Hodgson Russ LLP, The Guaranty Building, 140 Pearl Street; corner of Pearl and Church Streets, Buffalo, New York. Individuals between the ages of 18-44 may register at this event. It’s important to add more people to the registry because that gives patients a chance to find a matching marrow donor. Together, we can give hope to thousands of men, women and children, like Zachary, who need a life-saving transplant.
Joining the Be the Match Registry is easy. You must meet the health guidelines and be willing to donate to any patient in need. Volunteers at this event will explain what it means to join the registry, help you understand your commitment, answer your questions and help you through the process. Donors between the ages of 45-60, are able to register online at a cost of $100.
For those unable to register, financial contributions may be made to Be the Match Registry to offset the cost. Be The Match provides financial assistance to patients and their families to help offset costs of a marrow transplant.
