Scholarships and awards that are available to graduating law student at the time of Commencement.
Students Awards Convocation - Most of our student awards will be announced at this special ceremony that takes place prior to the Commencement Ceremony in Slee Hall. Students receiving an award will be notified via email in May. This program is by invite only.
Faculty & Staff Awards and Faculty Hooders at Commencement - Graduating seniors have the opportunity to vote for two awards to be given at Commencement; one to a faculty member and one to a staff member for outstanding contributions to the law school. Voting takes place in December.
Nominations for the awards below can be submitted by the students themselves, or by a third party. All these awards must be received on or before March 15, 2019.
Dale S. Margulis Award - Students may nominate themselves or another graduating senior for this award. The award is presented to a member of the graduating class who has contributed the most to the law school and the community. This award is selected by the School of Law deans based on nominations made by members of the graduating class.
Justice M. Dolores Denman Scholarship Award - The Justice M. Dolores Denman Award is presented annually by the WNY Chapter of the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York. This scholarship/award is presented to a graduating senior who is a custodial parent, and the award is intended to offset the costs of daycare and other child rearing expenses during the bar study period.
The GOLD Group Award – This award is given annually to the member of the graduating class who has demonstrated outstanding leadership skills in advancing the mission of UB School of Law and enhancing its reputation for excellence in legal education.
Women Lawyers of Western New York Award – Students may nominate themselves or another graduating law student for this award. The award is presented to an individual who contributes to the advancement of women in our society, promotes the issues and concerns of women in the legal profession, and demonstrates academic achievement. Nominations should include a narrative and supporting information demonstrating the contributions and achievements of the nominee.
