Summer Fellowship Application Materials Checklist

Your completed application must consist of the following:

1.    Completed Application

2.    Resume (PDF Preferred)

3.    Statement of BPILP Involvement (PDF Preferred)

This statement should be approximately one paragraph in length and should describe how you were involved with BPILP this year.  Also, please include a bullet-point list of any & all the events/meetings you attended. Please note: fellowships are not limited to BPILP members.

4.    Statement of Proposed Internship (PDF Preferred)

This statement should be approximately one to two paragraphs in length and include the following: contact name, organization name, address, and contact information of the sponsoring organization as well as a detailed description of your project or work.

5.    Personal Statement (PDF Preferred)

This statement should be no more than five (5) pages, double-spaced.  Your personal statement should describe in detail your commitment to public interest law.  Your statement should answer the following questions and address the following issues:

  • What do you hope to gain from your fellowship experience?
  • Why do you believe it is important to serve the particular population or community that your work addresses?
  • How do you intend to continue public interest work after your fellowship has ended?
  • Describe, using specific examples, your past commitment to public interest work.

6.    Letter of Recommendation (PDF Preferred)

You must submit one letter of recommendation from a past employer, faculty member, legal or other professional, or peer.

7.    Letter of Support from Sponsoring Organization (PDF Preferred)

You must submit a letter, on letterhead, from your sponsoring employer stating that they have offered you employment for the Summer of 2019.  The letter should detail the type of work you will be doing, how you will be supervised, and what the agency does. You may include any promotional information, such as brochures, up to two (2) pages in length.

If the supporting organization prefers to send the letter directly, letters can be emailed to law-clinic@buffalo.edu with the subject line “BPILP Fellowship Letter of Support – Last Name, First Name” or mailed to “Clinical Legal Education Program Attn: BPILP Letter of Support, 507 O’Brian Hall, North Campus, Buffalo, NY 14260.”

Letters of Support need to be received no later than Friday, April 12, 2019.

ALL APPLICATION MATERIALS MUST BE SUBMITTED NO LATER THAN 5:00 pm ON FRIDAY, APRIL 12, 2019.
