Susan Vivian Mangold was a Professor of Law at the University at Buffalo School of Law.  She focused her teaching and scholarship in the area of children and the law. 

Mangold was Chair of the University’s Strategic Strength in Civic Engagement and Public Policy. She was co-editor of West Publishing’s casebook, Children and the Law: Doctrine, Policy and Practice (5th Edition, 2014)Her research follows up on a two-year study she directed that was funded by the Public Health Law Program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF). The RWJF project employed community-based partnership research to study the impact of types of funding sources on outcomes for children in the care of the child welfare system. She is particularly interested on the results of that study in conjunction with the CDC’s Adverse Childhood Experiences Study. 

Mangold is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School, where she was Executive Director of Harvard Legal Aid and co-founder of the Children’s Rights Project. She was a staff attorney at the Juvenile Law Center in Philadelphia before entering academia. There, she represented children in abuse and neglect cases and worked on impact litigation in child welfare, juvenile justice and mental health. Before law school, she was Program Director at a Girls Club in Massachusetts, providing afterschool services to inner city girls, many of whom were involved in the child welfare system.
