Robert P. Fine ’68, a founding partner of Hurwitz & Fine, P.C., concentrates his practice in business/corporate law. An alumni leader, he has served as an adjunct professor, president of the UB Law Alumni Association, chairman of the Annual Fund and on the Dean’s Advisory Council.

About Robert P. Fine
What attracted Robert Fine to UB Law? He lived his whole life in Buffalo, and it was convenient. It also was a great law school with excellent professors. Going to school downtown on West Eagle Street gave him the opportunity to regularly see trials and understand what lawyers were doing in their law offices.
“I got a great education there and it was a great experience. The excellence of the school has only increased as time has gone on.”
When he looks back, the memories he thinks of most were the great professors, especially Ken Joyce, Jack Hyman and Bill Hawkland.
He repeats Dean Hawkland’s advice on the last day of class: “Now you know how to secure transactions, and to protect your clients, and to make sure you have security for any debts that are owed to your client. But my advice to you is: When in doubt, take the cash.”
Fine’s advice to law students: Study hard. There’s no great secret. Law school is the opportunity to hone your skills and gain the knowledge that will serve you well or poorly, depending on the effort you put into it, for the rest of your professional life. “Buckle down, because now is when it really starts to count.”
