Law Review Dinner to honor two accomplished litigators

Two experienced litigators – one a favorite adjunct professor, the other a past president of the New York State Bar Association – will be honored as staff and supporters of the Buffalo Law Review gather for their year-end dinner.

The April 30 dinner at the Park Club in Williamsville will recognize attorneys John R. Nuchereno, who teaches Evidence at SUNY Buffalo Law School, and Vincent E. Doyle III ’89, whose term as state Bar president focused on improving access to the legal system.

The student-edited Buffalo Law Review, established in 1951, publishes articles by scholars, practitioners and judges, as well as member-written pieces on contemporary legal issues. Admission to the Law Review is open to all SUNY Buffalo Law students on a competitive basis.

The annual dinner celebrates the year’s achievements, including publication of five issues of the journal. It also honors members of the legal community, many of them with past ties to the Law Review, who have distinguished themselves in practice and in support of the Law School.

John R. Nuchereno

Nuchereno, a partner in the boutique Western New York firm Nuchereno & Nagel, has tried hundreds of cases as a litigator, including more than 50 jury homicide trials. In addition to criminal matters, he handles commercial, contract and property disputes, as well as personal injury, negligence, and estates and trusts.

He chairs the Criminal Law Committee of the Bar Association of Erie County and serves on the board of directors if the Erie County Aid to Indigent Prisoners Society, which administers the county’s assigned counsel program. In addition to his adjunct position at SUNY Buffalo Law School, he is also an adjunct faculty member at Hilbert College, teaching topics in elder law.

“His dedication to his students is incomparable,” says third-year law student Emily Berry, who as managing editor of the Law Review organized the year-end dinner and helped choose the honorees with others on the journal’s editorial board. “He has a desire not only to teach, but to mold the next generation of lawyers. He is an inspiration to all law students and practitioners.”

Vincent E. Doyle III ’89

As the 114th president of the New York State Bar Association, Doyle also advocated for increased diversity in the legal profession. As a result of his initiatives, the state Bar was honored with an American Bar Association Partnership Award for its efforts to advance diversity in the legal community.

A partner in the Buffalo firm Connors & Vilardo, Doyle is a commercial litigator whose practice includes civil and white-collar criminal litigation and representation of professionals in disciplinary proceedings. He also advises on legal ethics matters, and is a past president of the Erie County Aid to Indigent Prisoners Society.

“Mr. Doyle provides a great example for Law Review members to aspire to in the future,” Berry says. “Not only does he excel in practice, but also in striving to help the community and the legal community improve.”

At the April 30 event, which begins at 6 p.m., Law Review editor in chief Ryan Ganzenmuller will review the year’s work, and a series of student awards will also be presented.
