School of Law is now accepting the GRE as part of the application process

Applicants seeking admission in Fall 2019 and beyond may opt to take the GRE in lieu of the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) and may submit their GRE scores as a part of the application process.

“We are very pleased to take another step forward towards eliminating barriers to access to education,” says Dean Aviva Abramovsky. “The cost of standardized tests can be very expensive. Students who have not made a final decision regarding their educational path must often take more than one test, or are forced to make a difficult decision regarding which test they can afford to take.

“As New York State’s law school, we have always been committed to expanding pathways to a legal education. This is just one more way for us to do so.”

UB School of Law joins over 30 law schools across the nation that now recognize the GRE as a reliable indicator of law school ability based on the results of validity studies conducted by each school. Acceptance of the GRE will be especially attractive to students considering one of the many dual degree options offered at UB, known for its interdisciplinary approach to education. The School of Law offers a JD/MBA, JD/MPH, various JD/PhD programs and more.

“We hope that this ultimately benefits those students who may not have access to the LSAT, but who have the talent and the necessary skills to succeed in law school,” says Abramovsky. “It may also encourage those talented students who are unclear about their next step to consider a career in law.”
