Students who already have a first degree in law may pursue a Master of Laws or LLM degree. Our three LLM programs provide highly specialized courses of study designed to match a student’s intellectual interests and advance their career to the next level.
One of the only post-professional programs in New York State devoted exclusively to the study of criminal law, this program attracts lawyers from all over the world who go on to teach, do policy work, or serve as prosecutors or judges in their home jurisdictions.
This innovative program recognizes the increasingly global nature of legal practice and the need for skilled attorneys to guide clients through cross-border interactions, including trade, tax, immigration, real estate, corporate and transactional issues.
This program offers professionals the flexibility to create a highly specialized course of study based on a student's individual interests and drawing on the School of Law’s excellence in research, classroom instruction and experiential learning.
"The LLM program equipped me with both the substantive knowledge and practical confidence needed to excel as an international lawyer. The program's career-focused approach and supportive faculty transformed my professional trajectory, opening opportunities I never thought possible."

"Our LLM programs offer a wide array of study focuses to meet the needs of our students, who come to us with diverse backgrounds and objectives. Some students join us on Fulbright fellowships or otherwise to advance their careers in their home countries; others have already established themselves permanently in the United States and seek the LLM degree to enable them to take a US bar exam (generally New York)."
- Prof. Meredith Kolsky Lewis, vice dean for international and graduate programs
