Terrence M. Gilbride ’88, Sr. Vice President and Chief Legal Officer for the Buffalo Bills, LLC., was a partner in Hodgson Russ LLP, where he focused on real estate, energy, and finance from 1997 to 2023. He serves on the Dean’s Advisory Council and was president of the Law Alumni Association.

Attorney Terrence Gilbride, a Hamburg native, grew up in his family's bars and restaurants. Gilbride credits the family business with shaping his work ethic and customer service skills, which guided his decision to pursue a career in law. As the first lawyer in his family, he attended the University at Buffalo School of Law, attracted by its reputation and affordability.
A young student among older peers, Gilbride faced challenges but gradually gained confidence. He appreciates the influential law professors and courses that shaped his understanding of transactional law, preparing him for a successful career. Gilbride shares lessons from his past through humor and nostalgia, emphasizing the importance of education and family support.
During law school, Gilbride formed lasting friendships, emphasizing the camaraderie that developed among classmates. He recalls connections with Melanie Tisdale, Norman Viti, Terry Flynn, Randy Sarnacki, and Charlie Desmond. He also mentions his partners at Hodgson Russ, including Chris Doyle and Willie Schoellkopf, a musician who played at his wedding and recently passed away.
Gilbride met his wife, Jane, while working in a restaurant. He believes mentorship is important, naming influential figures who shaped his career. Gilbride shares valuable lessons for aspiring lawyers, emphasizing listening, building relationships, and solving problems for others.
