You’ve likely heard the phrase “working pro bono” before. It’s not only a common phrase, but the notion of pro bono work is deeply imbedded within the roots of the legal profession. Like the rest of the legal community, pro bono work is a crucial part of the University at Buffalo School of Law, so much so that we host a pro bono week with a series of events, in addition to our Pro Bono Scholars program.

The University at Buffalo School of Law’s Clinical Legal Education program gives students the chance to put their learning into practice. Offering diverse and sophisticated practice opportunities to upper-class and LL.M students, those taking part work closely with skilled supervising attorneys to grow their knowledge and application of legal matters.

Whether you want to argue cases in court, research intellectual property rights or negotiate contract disputes—impeccable communication is key for every lawyer. Whatever path you eventually choose within the legal field, great communication is a cornerstone and something you should develop from day one. And by day one, we mean right from the moment you start applying to law school.

Learning through personal experience and hands-on application is an invaluable part of growth for any vocation and the same rings true for the world of law. Thanks to the support of generous donors, the School of Law was able to place more than 60 law students in 2021 summer fellowship programs to help further their education and experience.
