September - October 2019

10/19/2019 - Law faculty, student, colleagues and family gathered to mark the retirement of beloved law professor, scholar, and activist Isabel Marcus.

10/12/2019 - The School of Law’s Black Law Students Association (BLSA) and the Latin American Law students Association (LALSA) held our annual Student of Color Brunch for law students and the community.

10/04/19 - The School of Law hosted the second annual New York State Public Defenders Career Fair, giving law students and recent graduates an opportunity to interview with public defenders offices from around the state of New York.

10/03/19 - A celebration marks the significance of Western New York’s Niagara River being designated as a Wetland of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention.

10/02/2019 - The UB Law Alumni Association's GOLD Group and our Student Bar Association hosted our Annual Fall Social for law students and alumni.

10/02/2019 - The School of Law hosted the CLE program, Learning from the Ramsar Designation of the Niagara River Corridor, held in conjunction with the October 3 Ramsar Designation Ceremony of the Niagara River Corridor.

10/01/2019 - U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Jeffrey S. Sutton visited the law school and discussed the role of State rights in an increasingly federally focused governmental system. The event was hosted by the Federalist Society and American Constitution Society.

09/27/2019 - The School of Law joined our law alumni for an evening celebrating the legendary Professor Kenneth F. Joyce at Kleinhans Music Hall.

09/25/2019 - The student chapter of The Federalist Society welcomed U.S. Solicitor General Noel Francisco to the School of Law for a discussion and Q&A with law students, faculty, and local legal practitioners.

09/25/2019 - The Buffalo Sports & Entertainment Law Society and the UB Law Alumni Association hosted UB Bulls Tailgate Party where law students, alumni and friends cheered on the UB Bulls who defeated the Temple Owls. 

09/10-11/2019 - SBA held their annual Table Days, giving student organizations and law journals an opportunity to meet with students and talk to them about getting involved. Participation is voluntary, though it helps enrich the law school experience.

July-August 2019

08/21/2019 - The UB School of Law Alumni Association hosted a Welcome Party for New Students at UB's Center for Tomorrow.

08/20/2019 - Law students participated in our annual Court Trip. Students gathered at the Ceremonial Courtroom.

08/02/2019 - The UB Law Alumni Association held our annual 50+ Reunion Luncheon where we welcomed alumni who graduated 50 or more years ago. Alumni and guests joined Dean Aviva Abramovsky, who gave updates about the School of Law.

07/31/2019 - The New York City Chapter of the UB Law Alumni Association held an evening of networking and fun for law alumni, students and friends at our Annual Summer Social.

07/17/19 - The Washington, DC Chapter of the UB Law Alumni Association invited law school friends and law students to a cocktail reception with Hon. Paul L. Friedman ’68, United States District Court Judge.

June 2019

06/20/2019 - The UB Law Alumni Association held a luncheon to thank the members of the board for their tireless and enthusiastic service this year.

06/13/2019 - The Rochester Chapter of the UB Law Alumni Association hosted a CLE program and reception for accepted students in the Rochester area. The CLE featured a panel of New York State Supreme Court, Appellate Division judges.

06/05/201 9 - Alumni gathered for an evening of networking at the UBLAA Central New York Chapter's Spring 2019 Reception.

May 2019

05/09/2019 - The UB Law Alumni Association honored five distinguished practitioners and a non-alumna at its 57th Annual Alumni Dinner.

05/03/2019 - Law alumni got the inside scoop from three prestigious judges when the UBLAA GOLD Group presented “The Art of Persuading Judges in Federal & State Court.” Our thanks to Hon. Lawrence J. Vilardo, U.S. District Court, Western District of New York; Hon. Ralph A. Boniello III ’69, NYS Supreme Court, Eighth Judicial District, Niagara Falls, N.Y.; and Hon. Eugene F. April 2019

04/25/19 - The Buffalo Law Review held its 30th Annual Law Review Dinner where they honored Hon. Craig D. Hannah ’95 and James P. Kennedy ’88 for their distinguished service and contributions to the School of Law, the Buffalo Law Review, and the legal community.

04/19/19 - Gregg Brandon, Vice President & Chief Counsel for the Buffalo Bills, visited the law school to speak with law students at a round table discussion organized by the UB Center for the Advancement of Sport.

04/18/19 - The School of Law’s Trial Advocacy Program held its annual 2018-19 End of Year Awards Banquet where they acknowledged and thanked everyone who helped make this an engaging and successful year.

04/17/2019 - Hon. Frank P. Geraci, Jr. and Hon. William M. Skretny hosted a reception at the U.S. District Court Building to celebrate the 5th Anniversary of the Pro Se Civil Litigation Support Practicum, a  partnership between the Erie County Bar Association Volunteer Lawyer’s Project and the University at Buffalo School of Law.

04/11/2018 - Our Students of Color held their 30th Annual Awards Celebration honoring outstanding students and members of the legal community.

04/16/2019 - The Health Justice Law & Policy Clinic hosted National Healthcare Decisions Day where law students gave away scores of pocket-sized health care proxy forms from event partner ECMC and educational materials from The Conversation Project, a national campaign to encourage advance care planning.

04/06/2019 - Law students from the Domestic Violence Task Force (DVTF) participated in our annual "Dress for What's Next" spring event for survivors of domestic violence. This empowering day encourages domestic violence survivors to remember their worth and improve their self-esteem.

04/05/2019 - The School of Law hosted Youth Law Day ’19 “Think Like a Lawyer” where high school students visited the campus to participate in a half-day program that included a mock class, a Law Student Q&A panel, and an opportunity for our visitors to evaluate and argue a legal case.

March 2019

03/14/2019 - With the UB Bulls Men’s Basketball team playing on a big screen in the background, law faculty, staff, and students attended a lunch with accepted students, demonstrating both our UB spirit and hospitality.

03/13/2019 - The UB Law Alumni Association's GOLD Group and the Young Lawyers Committee of the Bar Association of Erie County held an annual Spring Social, bringing together law alumni, students and friends.

03/13/2019 - It was standing room only as guest speaker David Faithi, director of the American Civil Liberties Union’s National Prison Project, visited UB to discuss the human and financial costs associated with the U.S.’s reliance on mass incarceration.

03/08/2019 - Smiles from our 2019 OUTLaw Dinner where we honored De’Jon Hall ‘16 for his outstanding activism in the LGBTQ+ community, as well as the MOCHA Center (Men of Color Health Awareness Project) of Buffalo where Hall serves as manager.

03/07/2019 - The ongoing controversy regarding athletes speaking out and demonstrating on societal and government issues was the topic of discussion for the program "Freedom of Expression: The First Amendment and Athletics." The panel included Nellie Drew (Director of the Center for the Advancement of Sport), Lucinda Finley (UB School of Law), Paul Cambria (Lipsitz Green Scime Cambria LLP), Lorenzo Alexander (The Buffalo Bills, National Football League Players Association) and Shane Costa '13 (Pillar Sports Management LLC).

03/01/2019 - There were several smiling faces at our 24th Annual BPILP Auction, held March 1 in Buffalo’s newest venue, the Admiral Room. Funds raised at the Auction will go to support law students who work in public interest positions over the summer.

January & February 2019

02/13/2019 - The Buffalo Public Interest Law Program (BPILP) and the Student Bar Association (SBA) hosted our annual Career Fair where more than 130 students met with 50+ employer representatives (including more than 27 alumni) from across the Western New York legal community for an evening of networking.

02/09/2019 - The School of Law hosted the National Trial Competition, bringing together teams from across the region to compete. The law school’s team of Sarah A. Elardo ’19 and Jacob M. Eckenrode ’19 advanced to the final round. Buffalo law students Christina Eaton ‘19, Salvatore M. Prince ’19, and William F. Fitzgerald ’19 were awarded Best Direct Examination.

02/09/2019 - The UB Center for the Advancement of Sport and the UB LAA held the CLE The Legal Ramifications of Toxic Cultures in Sports, Education & Business where presenters discussed the of cultural challenges across industries and the legal issues they present.

01/24/2019 - The law school and the UB LAA held a Mentoring Program Kickoff Reception, launching this year’s mentoring program for law alumni and students.

01/19/2019 - New York State Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul delivered an address to #UBLawResponds student attorneys as they prepare to depart for Puerto Rico to provide legal assistance to residents who continue to live without essentials following Hurricane Maria.

11/28/2018 - Therapy dogs came by to visit the law school during Wellness Week, giving our stressed students an opportunity to received some pooch-style TLC.

11/17/2018 - Photos from our intramural Representation in Mediation Competition. This year’s winners will represent the School of Law at the regional competition that will take place in April 2019.

11/16/2018 - The law school hosted a CLE program titled “Ethically Advocating for Those Who Served,” co-sponsored by the Veteran’s Legal Practicum and the Bar Association of Erie County’s Committee for Servicemembers and Veterans.

11/10/2018 – Photos from our banquet dinner held for those teams who participated in the School of Law’s Buffalo-Niagara Mock Trial Competition. Since 2004, teams from more than 30 law schools across the country travel to Buffalo to compete in this prestigious annual competition.

11/09/2018 - The challenge of tempering power in a world of “variegated capitalisms” was the topic of the Fall 2018 Mitchell Lecture on in the Charles B. Sears Law Library. The lecture featured John Braithwaite, distinguished professor at Australian National University’s School of Regulation and Global Governance.

11/07/2018 - The Women's Bar Association of the State of New York (WBASNY) and the School of Law co-sponsored an evening of one-on-one mentoring, networking and refreshments.

11/03/2018 - The School of Law held our annual intramural Charles S. Desmond Moot Court Competition. Congratulations to our winners Destiny Johnson ’20 and Chloe Nowak ’20. The runners up were Meghan Carrig ’20 and Hannah Rauh ’20.

11/01/2018 - Professor Irus Braverman recently conducted a lecture and book signing at Talking Leaves Books where she promoted her newest title, Coral Whisperers.

October 2018

10/31/2018 - Defense attorney Brian M. Melber '96 and former U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. ’84 were guest speakers for Assistant Clinical Professor Nicole Hallett’s class, Legal Ethics and Professional Responsibility, where they discussed being on opposite sides of the Lackawanna Six trial.

The School of Law hosted the first annual New York State Public Defenders Career Fair, giving law students and recent graduates an opportunity to interview with public defenders offices from around the state of New York.

10/26/2018 - It was a night of song and celebration as the School of Law’s Trial Advocacy Program held a benefit to raise funds for our teams to travel across the country and represent our law school in various competitions.

10/25/2018 - In recognition of the National Celebration of Pro Bono, the School of Law and the Buffalo Public Interest Law Program (BPILP) celebrated volunteerism by inviting various WNY public interest/sector organizations to participate in Table Days.

10/24/2018 - It was standing room only as law students and faculty gathered for an open and timely discussion titled “Burden of proof: a town hall on sexual assault & the law.” Organized by the student chapters of ACS, SBA, BLSA, LALSA, OUTLaw, Women of Buffalo Law, the program dove into the recent U.S. Supreme Court confirmation process that led to an in-depth conversation about sexual assault in America as well as in the legal field.

10/23/2018 - Leslie M. Greenbaum ‘73, of Gross Shuman P.C. and former attorney for Buffalo rock icon Rick James, visited the School of Law to give a talk on branding and name, image, and likeness issues in sports and entertainment law.

10/22/2018 - Jonathan Coyles ’05, vice president of drug, health and safety programs for Major League Baseball, visited the School of Law to talk to our students about drug testing issues.

10/ 10/2018 - The UBLAA’s GOLD Group hosted the CLE, “Discussion on E-filing and the New Statewide Practice Rules at the NYS Appellate Division, Fourth Department,” featuring Robert C. Brucato ’90 and Mark W. Bennett.

10/04/2018 - Law alumni and students got a chance to mingle at our annual Fall Social hosted by the UBLAA’s GOLD Group and the Student Bar Association.
