Sports Law Clinic

This exciting new clinic provides students with the opportunity to work on current issues in sports law and policy.

About the Sports Law Clinic

The Sports Law Clinic works on a variety of cases rooted in making sports fair, accessible, and safe for all levels of athletes. Past projects have included developing NIL policy and procedures for UB's D1 Athletics Department, creating a model law and supporting white paper to require sports venues to implement emergency action plans ("Damar's Law"), and providing support to the public sector (Erie County) in negotiations for the Buffalo Bills new stadium project.  Students in this clinic also submit papers for industry publication.

Buffalo Bills Stadium NIL Sports Bra Problem The Dance Project

The Dance Project

Under the direction of law faculty, students will have the opportunity to work with physicians and athletic training staff from UBMD.  Students will conduct research and draft client memoranda as part of an effort to address gaps in dancers’ medical treatment and healthy participation as scholarship students.

The nature of the work will involve matters such as:

  1. Research into how dancers’ health and participation experiences resemble or may differ from those of student athletes;
  2. Researching and assessing policies and protocols adopted by other Division I institutions for dance programs;
  3. Assessing whether Title IX or other gender equity measures may apply to  dance programs;
  4. Identifying how dance programs might be revised to provide better, safer participation by students; and
  5. Creating a proposal to address gaps in dancers’ safe and healthy participation in dance.
