Dean S. Todd Brown
Dear Friends,
As our 140th anniversary approaches, we reflect on the blueprints that have shaped UB Law. Every blueprint begins with a foundation. At the State of New York’s law school, that foundation has always been community.
In 1887, members of the local bench and bar came together to establish a law school rooted in partnership, one they believed would shape the profession and serve the public good. Their vision continues to guide us today.
Educating the lawyers of tomorrow is a critical part of what we do, and it is never done alone. We depend on the legal community to mentor, coach, teach and hire our students. That partnership is at the cornerstone of our living history. It is how we welcome each new generation of attorneys to the profession they will soon join.
This Blueprints issue highlights the many voices and initiatives that are powerful examples of collaboration in action. From innovative faculty research that informs policy and practice, to the outstanding programs that prepare our students for success, such as The Advocacy Institute, our Clinical Legal Education program, and our New York City Program in Business and Law, now celebrating its 20th season—each demonstrates how the bar and the law school work side by side to advance justice, sharpen skills, and expand opportunity in Western New York and far beyond.
We hope you enjoy these stories that showcase the impact and reach of our community. I am deeply grateful to the many alumni and friends who have contributed their time, talent and support to chart our path forward. With each generation, we build upon their example, carrying forward a legacy of partnership and purpose.
I look forward to shaping the future together in the year ahead.
Warm regards,
S. Todd Brown
Dean and Professor of Law
