"Each class, experience, summer position, and extracurricular has shaped me into the person I am today. When I entered law school, I had an idea of what I wanted to practice, but it was through all these experiences that my passion was confirmed."
The Me Before Law School:
I graduated from the University at Buffalo in 2022 with a B.S. in Accounting and a B.A. in Political Science. During undergrad, I was a member of UB DECA, an undergraduate business club. I also had several internships during my summers, including one at a startup here in Buffalo. I went straight from undergrad to law school.
Outside the Classroom:
During 2L and 3L, I was a member of the Buffalo Law Review and served on the Law Review Executive Board during 3L as Head Note & Comment Editor. I was also a Research Assistant during my first summer and a Teaching Fellow for two classes: first for Professor Paul Linden-Retek's undergraduate Public Law course, and second for Professor Anthony O'Rourke's Academic Legal Writing course. I also clerked during 3L for the law firm I will be joining after graduation.
What I’ll Remember Most:
For me, it’s getting to meet a group of lifelong friends. From the 1L Section Reveal in August before 1L through to now, law school brings you together with some incredible people who you get to share three great years with. Law school is as much about the people as it is about the readings or the exams.
Favorite Class:
My favorite class would have to be a three-way tie among Federal Income Tax with Professor Heidi Forman, Advanced Human Rights Seminar with Professor Paul Linden-Retek, and American Legal History with Professor Matthew Steilen. The latter two won’t be directly related to what I will practice, but both professors love what they teach and make each class enjoyable. Federal Income Tax is more applicable to what I want to practice and was a great way to build skills I will take with me into my future career.
Who I Am Now & What’s Next:
Each class, experience, summer position, and extracurricular has shaped me into the person I am today. When I entered law school, I had an idea of what I wanted to practice, but it was through all these experiences that my passion was confirmed. After graduation, I will be working as a corporate associate in Buffalo for the law firm Lippes Mathias.
Why UB School of Law is the Place to Be:
While law school can be challenging and stressful at times, UB offers an incredible support system. From the Office of Student Affairs with their many wellness events and one-on-one meetings, to professors and TAs hosting office hours and review sessions, it all helps make the transition smoother and the experience more enjoyable.
