"I have loved the strong sense of community at UB School of Law. It’s a place where professors are genuinely invested in your success, and your classmates quickly become your support system."
The Me Before Law School:
Before law school, I attended the University at Buffalo (UB) for undergrad, where I was able to graduate in just three years. Rather than going straight into law school, I decided to take a gap year to gain more real-world experience. During that time, I served as an AmeriCorps VISTA at PUSH Buffalo, a community-based organization focused on affordable housing and neighborhood development. In my role, I developed an after-school youth program specifically catered to the young people living on Buffalo’s West Side. Through this experience, I was able to combine my interests in public service, community development, and youth empowerment — all of which continue to inspire my path in law school.
Outside the Classroom:
Outside of class, I really enjoyed exploring the local restaurant scenes in both Buffalo and Rochester — trying new places has become one of my favorite ways to unwind. Recently, I’ve also been trying to get back into running, which has been a great way to stay active and clear my mind outside of my academic commitments.
At school, I stayed busy through a few different roles and organizations. I served as the Vice President of the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association (APALSA), worked as a Publication Editor for the Buffalo Human Rights Law Review, and was a Student Associate at the Entrepreneurship Law Center. I also had the opportunity to be a Teaching Fellow for Torts and Property, helping support first-year students. Alongside these activities, I worked part-time as a Student Assistant in various offices at the University at Buffalo, including the Office of Inclusive Excellence and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Belonging at the law school.
What I’ll Remember Most:
One of my favorite memories from law school was going out with one of my close friends to local Mexican restaurants around Buffalo. We made it a tradition to try at least one or two new places each semester, usually after midterms or final exams. It was a great way to wind down after the stress of exams, catch up, and just enjoy each other’s company outside of the law school environment. Those moments really helped balance the intensity of law school and created some of my favorite memories.
Who I Am Now & What’s Next:
Law school has helped me grow into someone who is more confident, resilient, and open-minded. Through my classes, internships, and leadership roles, I have learned how to advocate for myself and others while balancing a demanding workload.
After graduation, I plan to move to Rochester, NY, and join Phillips Lytle LLP full-time as a banking and financial services associate on their affordable housing lending team. I’m excited to start my legal career there, building on the experience I gained during my summer associate position. After taking the bar exam, I’m hoping to take a bar trip to Barcelona — a city that’s been on my travel bucket list for a long time!
Why UB School of Law is the Place to Be:
I have loved the strong sense of community at UB School of Law. It’s a place where professors are genuinely invested in your success, and your classmates quickly become your support system. There are many opportunities to get involved both academically and socially — from student organizations to clinics and journals, you’ll find something that fits your interests.
Another important thing to know is that the school encourages practical, hands-on learning. Whether through clinics, externships, or the various legal research and writing opportunities, you’ll have the chance to apply what you learn in real-world settings early on. UB School of Law gives you the flexibility to explore different areas of law while building lasting personal and professional relationships.
