Biography

Orlando Dickson, a U.S. Army Combat Veteran, joined the University at Buffalo School of Law as Lecturer in Law teaching Legal Reasoning, Criminal Law, and Public Law for UB’s Undergraduate Law BA Program. He serves on the Erie County Corrections Specialist Advisory Board, and previously served on the Buffalo Police Advisory Board. Prior to coming to the School of Law, he worked with local nonprofits, City of Buffalo, The County of Erie, and The State of New York where he lobbied for and helped draft legislation dealing with police use of force, police body cameras, police oversight, and New York’s Marihuana Regulation & Taxation Act (MRTA).  

Dickson attended University of Massachusetts and earned a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership, while also earning a Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies from the same institution, both with honors. He received his Juris Doctor from the University at Buffalo School of Law. While in law school, he was an active member of the School of Law’s Black Law Student Association, being elected President of the Black Law Student Association in 2018 and served as his classes Student Bar Association representative for all three years he attended. While in law school, Dickson co-authored an article published by the Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations titled: “Evicted in Buffalo: The High Costs of Involuntary Mobility.” He was also featured in the Washington Post article titled: “Marijuana Police Probable Cause” by Caren Chesler. 

Dickson holds the record for most certifications in Cornell University history through their eCornell Program, with 18 total certifications in business, management, marketing, economics, communications, and diversity, equity & inclusion.
