Policies Governing the Use of Law Student Only Space

Law students are reminded that, in general, they are subject to the General Academic Requirements, Policies, and Code of Student Conduct outlined by the School of Law.

In addition, while in the Libraries, all patrons are subject to UB Library Policies.

In order to best utilize these spaces and ensure the safety and comfort of all, the following rules apply to the 5th and the 7th floor spaces:

  • These spaces are for current law students and recent graduates studying for the Uniform Bar Examination (UBE) only.
  • Guests are not permitted under any circumstances.
  • Students on the 5th or 7th floors may be asked for their UB Card to verify their status. It is the responsibility of the student to maintain current identification on your person. In the absence of identification, you will be asked to leave.
  • The Law Library reserves the right to revoke swipe card access if any of the policies and guidelines outlined above are violated. All violations will be reported to the Vice Dean for Students. There may be additional consequences for policy violations.

Additional policies for use of the 5th floor outside of regular library hours:

  • Outside of regular library hours, students utilizing the 5th floor 24/7 space must remain on the 5th floor. Elevators and stairwells will be accessible, but you are only permitted to use the stairwell for emergencies such as a fire in the building.
  • Outside of regular library hours, students utilizing the 5th floor 24/7 space must enter and exit the 5th floor via the designated door with swipe access. The exception to this rule is for emergencies such as a fire in the building.
  • The Law Library is not staffed outside of regular library hours. Outside of regular library hours, there are no library services available except for the self-help services available to you on the 5th floor.
  • If you elect to use the 5th floor after hours, please be aware of your surroundings and exercise caution. Contact University Police immediately (645-2222) if you have any safety concerns; they are here to help.
