The Career Services Office held a panel "Sport, Culture and Competition: Informal Q&A with Liam O'Neill" on Jan. 9th.

Liam O’Neill leads Ireland’s largest sporting organization, the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). Headquartered in Dublin, the GAA has member clubs in cities around the world and is celebrated as one of the great amateur sporting associations.

Formed originally to promote traditional Gaelic games such as Rounders, Football, and Hurling—a game tracing back 3,000 years—the GAA is a volunteer-led, community-based organization that is part of the Irish consciousness and plays an influential role in Irish society.

As part of a visit to the Buffalo chapter of the GAA, O’Neill shared his experience and insights on growing an international organization whose members share a deep passion for sport.

Traveling with O’Neill while he visited the U.S. was Peter Ryan, Deputy Consul General of Ireland. Also taking part in the conversation was Attorney Donall O’Carroll of Webster Szanyi, LLC.
