Fran and Cindy Letro Fellowship
Organization: Erie County Court Judge Bargnesi
I would describe my experience this summer as educational. This internship was my first experience working in the legal field. Over the the summer, I learned a lot about legal research, communication, and courtroom etiquette. I also gained valuable insight into the profession by learning from the various attorneys with whom I worked daily. This internship also helped me identify a practice area that interests me. It introduced me to countless career paths that I did not know existed.
One of the best things about this internship was how welcoming everyone was. Everyone was always willing to help me. If I was ever confused, all the attorneys were happy to explain the concepts to me until I understood them. Similarly, I also worked with a great group of interns that always had my back. I loved that we had to space to learn and grow together.
Additionally, one thing that I found impactful was seeing how the cases move through the court system. Seeing a case from when it came in, until there was some type of resolution highlighted the importance of preparation. It showed me that the better you prepare the stronger your case will be.
My fellowship is the reason I was able to have such a great experience, and I just want to say thank you to Fran and Cindy Letro for making it possible. This was the best experience that I could have asked for this summer. I learned a lot from those around me. It also helped me understand the type of lawyer I want to be.
