Organization: U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of New York
This summer, I had the privilege of serving as a law clerk at the United States Attorney's Office, where I gained invaluable hands-on experience in federal law. I worked closely with seasoned attorneys, assisting in drafting motions, conducting legal research, and preparing for court proceedings. The exposure to a wide range of high-stakes cases deepened my understanding of the legal process and sharpened my analytical skills. This experience not only solidified my passion for public service but also equipped me with the practical knowledge and confidence to pursue a career in law.
What had the greatest impact on me during my clerkship at the United States Attorney's Office was the exposure to real-world legal challenges and the critical thinking required to address them. Engaging directly with complex cases, I saw firsthand how the law is applied in practice, often in ways that are far more nuanced and demanding than what is taught in classrooms. The opportunity to contribute to cases with real consequences underscored the responsibility that comes with practicing law. This experience not only deepened my understanding of the law but also instilled in me a heightened sense of duty and commitment to ethical legal practice.
I would like to express my sincere thanks to the generous donors of the 2024 Professor Suzanne Tomkins '92 Women Children and Social Justice Advocacy Fellowship. Your contributions have made a significant impact on my academic and professional journey, providing me with opportunities that would not have been possible otherwise. I am profoundly grateful for your incredible generosity and support.
